The objects we collect, the photographs we take, the places we return to, the memories we carry, and the patterns we notice all have the potential to inform and deepen our creative practice. Yet it is through material engagement that these experiences are transformed into visual form.

In this immersive workshop, participants will explore the relationship between art, life, and materiality through a series of exercises, discussions, and studio investigations. Working with drawing, acrylic paint, gel printing, collage, paper, found materials, and optional stitching, students will create layered surfaces that serve as both a record of experience and a site of discovery. Through processes of accumulation, subtraction, repetition, reconstruction, and transformation, we will explore how materials can carry meaning and become active participants in the creative process.

Emphasis will be placed on curiosity, experimentation, and developing a practice of noticing. Participants will gather visual and material source material from their own lives while exploring how personal history, observation, memory, place, and collected objects can be translated through process-driven making. The goal is not to illustrate experience, but to discover what emerges through an ongoing dialogue between artist, material, and process.

Day 1: Observation, collecting, mapping influences, generating source material
Day 2: Drawing, monotypes, collage, and experimentation
Day 3: Building layered surfaces and developing themes
Day 4: Expansion, variation, and personal direction
Day 5: Refinement, critique, and next steps

Recommended Experience: While the workshop is open to artists at all stages, participants will benefit from having some familiarity with their chosen materials and a willingness to experiment, take risks, and work through process rather than focusing on predetermined outcomes.

Workshop Schedule:
Sunday Night: Welcome Meet and Greet at 6pm
Monday – Friday: 9am – 4pm

*Subject to change*
