About This Workshop
This is a workshop for experienced quilters who are new to improv, first time quilters who don’t like to follow rules, and more seasoned quilters and improvisers who want to become more conscious of the way they make patterns in patchwork and in life.
Improvisation is at the core of creativity and being a better improviser is a skill essential to modern living and modern quilting. In this workshop we will utilize ruler-free piecing techniques to explore pattern variations with squares, strips, angles and simple curves. We will learn composition and aesthetic approaches unique to improv quilting, including working without a plan, setting limits, finding flow, listening to internal cues, harnessing emotional energy, accessing intuitive color, collaborating with the patchwork, and most importantly letting go of perfection and saying YES AND to our truth!
My goal as the author of The Improv Handbook For Modern Quilters, and teacher of flexible patterns, is to meet each student creatively where they are and give them the support, tools and techniques to continue to grow along the pathways of their choice.
