About This Workshop
Joe has always used bias tape, commercial and homemade, to make pictures, portraits and abstract designs, but he also uses regular piecing techniques. This workshop on Madeline Island will focus on how to create pictures of people, places or even imaginary scenes using whatever technique is best suited for your project. Using your own photographs as inspiration, you will learn how to use the image as the basis for an original design using the freehand techniques Joe uses. With plenty of one-on-one instruction, even beginners will be able to sew simple images or abstract shapes. Make a landscape, a bird’s nest, a portrait—whatever image you would like to make into a quilt. Turning corners, beginning and ending, concealing joins, all the techniques you need for this type of work will be covered. Joe always brings his guitar to play soothing music to work by—when he is not conveying exactly how to get the image from your mind onto the cloth. MISA’s 40-acre meadow campus on Madeline Island is the perfect location for this quilting workshop.
