Instructor: Lisa Binkley

About This Workshop

Throughout this hands-on workshop, in artsy Santa Fe, students will learn all of the foundation stitches of bead embroidery as well as many variations on them. From sparsely stitched individual beads to densely beaded focal areas, students explore many of the limitless ways to add texture and dimension to fiber art with beads. Students also learn beaded edge and fringe techniques as well as several more three-dimensional sculptural stitches.

Class time will be a mixture of hand stitching the many techniques introduced, sharing with one another what we have learned and created, and viewing many examples of bead embroidery that will be provided in physical form and in print for inspiration and technique illustration. One afternoon will be spent at the Museum of International Folk Art where students will find inspiration from the largest collection of Folk Art in the world. Each student will take home a sampler of the many bead embroidery stitches learned as well as detailed hand-outs with information about stitches, bead and thread selection, and other important information for continued exploration of bead embroidery beyond the classroom.
