About This Workshop

Connecting to patchwork’s roots in thrift we will employ a practice of “making do” to activate a level of receptive creativity that may only be possible when we are freed from unlimited choice.

Learn ruler-free piecing techniques to improvise patchwork from discarded materials scavenged at the Island Closet in La Pointe, on Monday and Wednesday mornings, or from thrifted clothing or meaningful materials you bring from home.

Explore improvising within the given limits of the materials to abstract surprising geometries from the natural shapes of deconstructed clothing. Nurture experiences of serendipity and trust that the universe will provide. Discover the luxury and beauty of quilting with a variety of substrates. Learn and share tips for piecing with wool, linen, denim, corduroy, sweaters, lycra and more to expand your quilting practice.
