I’ve always been a sketching and drawing enthusiast. I grew up with superheroes in comic books, and after high school, I studied art at the Academy of Arts in Maastricht to become an art teacher. It was the late 80s when I graduated, and computer graphics was just starting to take off. I was instantly hooked on the medium. I got a job at a computer graphics studio right after graduation, and I’ve been making computer-based pictures ever since. Over the years, I’ve become a ruthless perfectionist, so I was very reluctant to pick up sketching again after thirty years, afraid I wouldn’t like the results. But in the summer of 2016, I decided to just go for it. I bought some random materials (alcohol based color markers and black fineliners and a sketchbook…) To make myself more disciplined, I decided to make at least one sketch every day. So, that’s what I did! I didn’t really have a specific subject in mind, but slowly, my love for architecture started to shine through in my work. When the pandemic hit, I had to stay indoors, but with the help of some amazing Instagram photographers, I found my most passionate theme yet. Stores, strange and peculiar houses really got me going. With over 81,000 students, I now have a highly successful course on Domestika focusing on my sketching work. In mid-2024, my how-to book on house sketching was released. Currently it’s available in English and Traditional Chinese. Also in production are versions in French, Hungarian and Dutch!
