Join David Hornung for a relaxed and supportive painting retreat focused on experimental, improvised abstraction. You’ll be painting with acrylic on paper and other tools and techniques that will lead you to discover compelling abstract compositions. Studio work will be augmented by daily slide shows and discussions that cover various approaches (e.g., gestural, shape based, and “all over” composition) and the ideas that attend these ways of working. We’ll also talk more generally about meaning in abstract art and its historical development from the early twentieth century up to the present. Instruction is tailored to the individual, so painters at all levels of experience are welcome to participate.

Our spacious studio is set on a hill overlooking the ocean about a mile outside of Bar Harbor – a beautiful setting, especially in early fall.
