About This Workshop
This hybrid (studio and on-location) workshop takes its themes and inspiration from Santa Fe’s color, architecture, culture, and the work of its most famous resident artist; Georgia O’Keeffe. Over the week, we will create work focusing on color, while studying composition, visual storytelling, urban sketching, landscape painting, and more through a combination of exercises in the studio and on location. We will create work in mixed media including watercolor, gouache, colored pencil, crayon, and more.
Our workshop will include visiting and creating art at the magical Ghost Ranch, the O’Keefe Museum, as well as many locations around the city. Our sketchbooks will be filled with landscapes, cityscapes, vignettes and historical stories. We will understand color and color theory through exploration and experimentation that includes sketching, drawing, painting, printmaking and collage.
This is a fast-paced and fun workshop that includes short demos and a lot of hands-on learning. You will try different approaches and experiments. You should be willing to walk about a mile a day (some days include less walking) and sketch outdoors some of the time. Come prepared to jump in and be experimental: We promise you a week of being inspired with lots of new avenues to explore in your personal work!
