About This Workshop
Join me for a five-day, intensive workshop to build your skills as an intuitive quilter while we explore how color combinations and color placement can make your artwork come alive. The three C’s – color, contrast, and composition – will thematically guide us as we experiment, embrace imperfection and seek our individual artistic voices – hallmarks of improvisational quilting.
During the workshop, participants will design and construct a large, improvisational quilt top. Independent work will be informed by daily presentations and interactive demos about color theory and artistic intuition. We will also consider the overlapping creative process of artists working across various media. Exercises, tips and techniques to guide color and compositional decision-making will be provided.
Delving a bit deeper, we will consider how our personal color intuition evolves and how factors like memory, culture, emotion, neurology, geography and personal history shape our seemingly random decisions and preferences about color, pattern and placement.
Group discussion, personalized instruction and frequent one-on-one check-ins will enable each of us to consider alternative design viewpoints and frameworks for independently assessing our creative work.
Throughout this week of improvisational quilting, we will be engaging in a lot of sewing, talking, playing, thinking and experimenting.
