History of MISA
2009 - Madeline Island
MISA was founded in 2009 on Madeline Island, the largest of the 22 Apostle Islands in Lake Superior.
Established by Charles E. Meech, the school transformed a former dairy farm into a vibrant arts campus, offering workshops in writing, painting, urban sketching, mixed media, quilting, fiber arts and photography. MISA has since become recognized as one of the nation's premier art and craft workshop schools.
2017 - Tucson, AZ
MISA expanded into Tucson, AZ in 2017. Workshops take place at the Tanque Verde Ranch.
2018 - Santa Fe, NM
MISA expanded into Santa Fe, NM in 2018. Workshops take place at the Historic Hilton Plaza Hotel.
2023 - Bar Harbor, ME
MISA expanded in Bar Harbor, ME in 2023. Workshops take place at the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel.
2025 - Pacific Grove, CA
MISA expanded to Pacific Grove, CA in 2025. Workshops take place at the Asilomar Hotel and Conference Grounds.
