Workshops
How do I register for a workshop?
You may register online or by calling (715) 747-2054. A 25% deposit is all you need to secure your spot, or you may choose to pay in full. Final payment is due 60 days before your workshop.
Is there a certain number of students required to hold a workshop?
MISA will hold workshops for which a minimum and maximum number of students are registered. That number varies from workshop to workshop.
If we must cancel a workshop, registered students will be given the opportunity to enroll in another course, with no transfer penalty. A full refund will be given to students who do not wish to transfer.
Are there waiting lists for workshops?
Yes. Waiting lists are maintained for all filled workshops. Spots will open for a workshop if someone cancels their registration.
What is the workshop schedule?
Workshops run Monday – Friday typically from 9am-4pm with an hour break for lunch.
Occasionally instructors will change the schedule to meet the needs of their workshop. Expected arrival for the workshop is the Sunday night before your week begins. See each workshop page for the end time on Friday, most end later afternoon.
A welcome reception/meet and greet is held on the Sunday before the workshop.
Do I need to bring materials to my class?
All of our workshops have a materials list of items that you should bring. You can view this on each workshop page. If it makes your travel easier, you are welcome to ship your supplies ahead of time.

Can I rent a sewing machine for my class?
MISA offers sewing machines for rent to workshop participants at each campus.
To reserve a sewing machine please call our registrar at 715-747-2054. Sewing Machine rental is $125 per week.
What does the workshop space look like?
Each workshop space is a little different. There will be a designated spot per student in the workshop.

MISA will provide tables, chairs and a few general materials needed for the workshop (see your workshop materials list, and reach out if you have questions).
What months are workshops held at each campus?
MISA Tucson Campus workshops are held January – February.
MISA Santa Fe Campus workshops are held March – May.
MISA Madeline Island campus workshops are held June – September.
MISA Bar Harbor Campus workshops are held in September.
MISA Asilomar Campus workshops are held in October – November.
Can I change my registration from one workshop to another?
Yes. If a scheduling conflict occurs, you can transfer once to another workshop if space is available. There will be a $200 transfer fee.

What are the lodging options?
MISA Tucson Campus: One of the most distinctive resorts in Tucson, Tanque Verde Ranch lodging combines the spirit of the Old West with modern amenities. Southwestern style decor perfectly complements the beauty of the natural surroundings. Tanque Verde’s “run of the house” accommodations give you easy access to all the amenities the ranch has to offer. Lodging options include a shared room with two beds and a bath en suite to be shared with another MISA student, or a private room with a bed and bath en suite.
MISA Santa Fe Campus: The rooms feature Southwestern décor inspired by the Native American cultures of New Mexico and historic artwork that is part of the hotel’s rich history. The unique adobe design and spacious facilities make this a perfect getaway for a week of creativity in the diverse culture and heritage of New Mexico. Lodging options include a shared room with two beds and a bath en suite to be shared with another MISA student, or a private room with a bed and bath en suite.
MISA Madeline Island Campus: Our exclusive lodging is designed to mirror the “Mission Cottage” style which characterized summer homes on Madeline Island in the late 1800s. Nestled on our grounds with beautiful forest and prairie meadow views, your room is just a short stroll away from our studio and dining areas, which are open 24 hours a day. Lodging options include a shared room with two twin beds and bath en suite to be shared with another MISA student, a private room with twin bed and shared bath en suite, and private room with queen bed and bath en suite.
MISA Bar Harbor Campus: Atlantic Oceanside Resort is set on 12 acres of oceanfront land and includes a spa and exercise room as well as both indoor and outdoor pools. The compound features private balconies and patios with ocean views to Frenchman Bay for each room. Lodging includes a "run of the house" options such as a shared room with two beds and a bath en suite to be shared with another MISA student, or a private room with a bed and bath en suite.
MISA Asilomar Campus: Asilomar is situated on 107 acres of scenic beachfront land and includes various workshop spaces, a spacious dining hall, and eclectic accommodations. This relaxed venue with easy beach access just a short walk, is minutes from Downtown Pacific Grove and 7 miles from Monterey Regional Airport. Lodging includes a "run of the house" options such as a shared room with two beds and a bath en suite to be shared with another MISA student, or a private room with a bed and bath en suite.

Why stay on campus?
Our students find that their creative experience is greatly enhanced by staying on the campus; they benefit from extended access to studio space as well as additional opportunities to interact with instructors and fellow students at meals.
How much does on campus lodging cost?
MISA Tucson Campus: All of our lodging packages include our meal plan (3 buffet meals a day) and prices depend on your preferences of the room. Day student does not include lodging but includes Lunch and workshop space.

What if I am taking a workshop with someone else, can we request to be roommates?
Yes, please send us an email to confirm your rooming request.
What is check-in and check-out time?
Check-in varies per campus and will begin on the Sunday before your workshop, unless you make arrangements to arrive early.

Consider staying an extra night with us, before or after your workshop, to enjoy other area attractions. Reach out to our registrar to make these arrangements.

What about MISA’s gourmet meals?
MISA Tucson Campus: Three exquisite buffet meals are prepared daily by a master chef and served in the stately ranch dining room with sweeping views of the Rincon Mountains. On Wednesday evening, the Ranch offers a specialty barbecue at its Cottonwood Grove with live entertainment. On Thursday morning, enjoy the Ranch's pancake breakfast up at the Old Homesetad.
MISA Santa Fe Campus: Daily buffet breakfast and lunches are provided in the Ortiz Restaurant. Dinners will be on your own, MISA students have their choice of more than two hundred Southwestern restaurants within a few blocks.
MISA Madeline Island Campus: Daily buffet breakfast and lunch, two dinners (Monday and Tuesday), and students have free access to healthy snacks and beverages 24/7 and endless Chocolate Chip Cookie Jars!
MISA Bar Harbor Campus: Enjoy the fabulous view of Frenchman Bay for buffet breakfast and lunch lines. Our meal plan includes five buffet breakfasts and lunches at the resort. In the evenings you will be able to explore and savor the freshest New England sea to table cuisine, caught, delivered and cooked straight from the boat at one of the many restaurants in downtown Bar Harbor.
MISA Asilomar Campus: Daily buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared by the Asilomar team in the Crocker Fining Hall. They are committed to sourcing food from local farmers where possible and integrating seasonal ingredients into our recipes.
* We are able to accommodate most dietary restrictions and preferences. Students will have the opportunity to provide this information to us through a nutrition form sent prior to the workshop. *
If I am staying off campus, can I still get meals?
Yes, you may purchase a full meal plan even if you stay off campus. We highly recommend this because being with your workshop and instructor particularly during this more social time, will greatly enhance your workshop experience.
May I bring a guest?
Guests are welcome to join you at MISA campuses. Please visit our accommodations pages on the website for details.
At some campuses, there is no additional lodging fee, though a meal plan may be required. Other campuses, meals and lodging for a guest are required.
Can my guest eat meals with me?
Yes, they will need to purchase a meal plan. Each campus is different, please reach out to our registrar to make sure they are on the meal plan.
Tuition
How much is tuition?
Tuition rates are based on the workshop and are subject to change. Please refer to the workshop description pages on this website for current tuition costs. Tuition does not include costs for lodging, meals or workshop materials fees.
How much is required for a deposit on a workshop registration?
A 25% deposit is all you need to secure your spot, and reserve on-site lodging and meals. You may also choose to pay in full.
Online Workshops require full payment upon registration.
Are there any discounted tuition programs?
Full-time residents of Bayfield and Ashland Counties are eligible for a $150 discount for any regular course on a space-available, stand-by basis. In the event that the workshop reaches maximum capacity, local residents may choose to pay full tuition for a confirmed space, or cancel without penalty. Local residents must present a valid driver’s license.
Will my tuition be refunded if I cancel my registration?
Transfer Policy – Registrants who cancel their enrollment in a class may make a one-time transfer to another workshop without penalty. Transfers may be made either in the current workshop season, or any class in the following year. A class registration is transferable to another person, with the same time limit restrictions.
All transfers are subject to a $200 transfer fee.
All transfers must be made 30 days prior to the workshop.
Refund Policy – If you prefer not to transfer your workshop registration, the following fees apply:
More than 90 days prior to the workshop $200 cancellation fee
Less than 90 days but 60 days prior to the workshop $400 cancellation fee
Less than 60 days no refunds; however see above Transfer Policy above.
Cancellation fees reflect the cost of registration, staff, instructor contracts, material acquisitions, and other services. This policy applies to all registrants, regardless of the reason for cancelling. We encourage the use of trip insurance.
MISA Cancels a Workshop
MISA reserves the right to cancel a workshop 30 days prior to the start of the class if the minimum number of students has not been met for a class. MISA will notify the registrants if there is a need to cancel. Students will have the option to transfer to another workshop or receive a full refund. MISA cannot be responsible for non-refundable airline tickets.
We expect participants will attend the entire class as scheduled. Late arrivals and early departures are disruptive for both the instructor and the other students. Please make every effort to participate fully in your class. Tuition adjustments will not be made for late arrivals or early departures. Call us before enrolling if you have questions about these policies.
Should an instructor cancel and we run the workshop with an equivalent caliber instructor, we do not issue refunds.
MISA Online Workshops
Payment Options are the same for both programs; however, unpaid balances will be due 21 days prior to the start of the course. Our Cancellation and Transfer Policies will apply with these amended terms
All transfers are subject to a $50 transfer fee.
All transfers must be made 7 days prior to the workshop.
If you prefer not to transfer your Online workshop registration, the following fees apply:
More than 14 days prior to the workshop, refund your deposit less the $75 cancellation fee.
Less than 14 days prior to the workshop no refund; however, see Transfer Policy.
What is the Scholarship process?
Students may apply for a Scholarship for a workshop. Please reach out to misa@madelineschool.com for more information.
We review each application in full, and consider how the student will benefit from attending a workshop with our assistance.
General FAQs
What are the age requirements for students at MISA?
Students must be at least 18 years of age to attend; occasionally exceptions are made based on Instructor preferences.
What is your pet policy?
Please leave your furry friends at home. We do, however, welcome service animals to our Madeline Island Campus.
Please contact the Registrar regarding this policy and our other campuses.
Are your facilities handicap accessible?
We have select lodging and workshop spaces that meet ADA accessibility standards.
However, not all areas on campus are fully accessible.
We encourage you to contact our registrar directly with any questions or specific requests.
Where is the closest airport?
MISA Tucson Campus: There is an international airport in Tucson, AZ. The Ranch runs an airport shuttle. Arrangements must be made at least one week prior to the workshop by calling the Ranch front desk. When making arrangements, mention you are a MISA student. See "getting here" page for more information.
MISA Santa Fe Campus: Students may travel to either Albuquerque, NM or Santa Fe, NM airports. Shuttles are available through local transportation. See "getting here" page for more information.
MISA Madeline Island Campus: There is an international airport in Duluth, MN. We offer a round-trip shuttle from Duluth International Airport to the campus for $500, which includes your ferry ticket. Please plan on arriving between 9AM and 3PM for shuttle pick ups and Saturday departing flights can be no earlier than 11AM.

MISA Bar Harbor Campus: Students may travel to Bangor International Airport (BGR). Private Ground Transportation is available from BGR via Y & P Transportation (207-412-8934) and Coastal Compass Taxi (207-801-8470). See "getting here" page for more information.
MISA Pacific Grove Campus: Students may travel to either San Francisco or San Jose airports with shuttle service available to the Monterey Shuttle Station through Groom Transportation. To make reservations, please call 831-373-7777 or book online at www.groometransportation.com and type in Asilomar Conference Center and Grounds as the end location. What’s the car ferry like to get to Madeline Island?
The car ferry is convenient and easy to use for walk-on or drive-on passengers. Reservations are not accepted. Arrive at the landing at least 15-20 minutes before your departure to purchase a ticket.
You are personally guided onto the boat by one of the helpful ferry staff, then just sit back and relax while you enjoy the beautiful ride!
The ferry typically runs every half hour. See their website at www.madferry.com for schedules and rates.
What are MISA's Shipping and Mailing addresses?
To help with travel, you are welcome to ship your materials to our campuses. Please send us an email with your tracking number when it is sent. This will help us to ensure we get it to you upon arrival for your workshop.
We are happy to ship your material back to you at the end of your workshop. We will help with arrangement and send you an invoice once it has been sent.
