Watercolor Unleashed! Wet & Wild Seascape & Landscape

Genre: Studio and Plein Air Painting

Type of Medium: Watercolor - as the primary medium - to be used in combination with opaque watercolor - or gouache.

Location: Pacific Grove

Availability: Spaces Available

Workshop Description:

Paint the misty, crashing, salty ocean waves as they break upon sandy shore and rocky outcroppings along with the coastal landscape of Asilomar State Beach on the Monterey Peninsula. “Light plein air” sketching and painting in the park will alternate with studio time.

Learn to simplify this challenging scenery by applying fundamental ocean wave “anatomy” and basic beach, rock, and landscape features to your water-media painting. Watercolor - as the primary medium - will be used in combination with opaque watercolor - or gouache.

A very versatile painting medium, opaque watercolor or gouache can be used in both transparent, translucent, and opaque applications. Adding opaque colors to your watercolor toolbox opens up a range of possibilities with the medium, thereby helping us to capture our artistic vision. You will be encouraged to add a couple of opaque watercolor or gouache colors to your current watercolor palette OR a full palette of opaque colors if you wish. The choice is yours! Supply lists will be provided.

A reference photo will be shared with you for study of the wave anatomy and basic ocean and beach features. If you have your own photos, you are welcome and encouraged to use them as well.

There will be demos, instruction at all levels, one-on-one critique and lots of painting time. Class time will be structured, yet open enough to accommodate the artistic spirit within us all.

All levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. The only prerequisite is an attitude of  joy in the act of painting!
