Learning to capture great landscape images starts with an understanding of how light can “make or break” your images. Understanding light makes an ordinary image extraordinary. In this workshop Don Smith will show you how to find this “magical light” on the edges of sunrises and sunsets.

The Apostle Islands and Madeline Island are the perfect venues for Don’s workshop. The East – West alignment of Madeline gives you the opportunity to work with both sunrises and sunsets that are minutes apart and rich with landscapes, sandy beaches, a variety of lighthouses, and an iconic lagoon.

The Islands offer endless photo opportunities. Each day will begin with sunrise shoots and end with opportunities to capture stunning sunsets. Mid-day will include reviews, critiques, and post processing lessons to help you compose these intriguing images and improve your artistic skills in MISA’s fully-equipped photo lab.

This workshop will also include a sunset photoshoot on MISA’s 80 passenger ship to Devils Island – the most iconic destination on Lake Superior. Devils Island is famous for its massive redstone sea caves. Weather permitting, the ship will also be able to maneuver inside the caves for rare macro photography moments.
