April Sproule
Genre: Mixed Media
April Sproule is a textile artist with a lifelong love of design and the many ways it can enrich and embellish everyday life. She has been sewing and creating with fiber since she was old enough to hold a needle, patiently guided by her two grandmothers, who instilled in her both skill and a deep appreciation for handwork.
She received her early professional training at the San Francisco School of Fashion Design and continued her education through extensive study of textiles, art, and business. Along the way, she learned from a wide range of inspiring teachers and employers who shaped her creative path and became lasting personal influences.
For over 20 years, April worked with fashion and accessory manufacturing firms throughout the United States and Canada, specializing in design, new product development, and production management. She thrived on problem-solving and particularly enjoyed the challenge of transforming an abstract idea into a beautifully realized, tangible product.
In 2001, April became a full-time textile artist and opened Sproule Studios. Since then, she has received numerous awards for her work and developed her own commercial line of textile-related products. She works from her studio in Northern California, offering workshops and private consultations in surface design techniques, contemporary hand embroidery, and mixed media textile art both online and in person for groups, guilds, and events.
Above all, April values the opportunity to share the ideas, inspiration, and techniques she loves with others—encouraging fellow artists to explore, experiment, and develop their own unique creative voice.
