Émilie Trahan
Genre: Quilting
Palliative care physician by day and quilting artist by night, Émilie Trahan is a Canadian textile artist who focuses on improvised quilting. Her work emphasizes the repurposing of textile materials (upcycling) from our everyday lives (sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths, clothing, etc.), grounded in the roots of the origins of quilting. Through this connection with the past and with the very fabric of our lives, she seeks to bring forth her intuitions of the intangible, immaterial world, the one that lies hidden behind our senses. Her abstract language is conveyed through intertwining curves and organic forms. Quilts, like poems, sketching the fibers of the universe.
Improvisation is at the core of her approach. A space that is meant to explore creativity, to connect with herself and build resilience.
