About This Workshop
Experience the joy, freedom and ART that comes from making do with what you got. Are you ready to activate a new level of receptive creativity, as you free yourself from the burden of unlimited choice? During this sustainable quilting retreat you will learn ruler-free piecing techniques to improvise patchwork from discarded materials scavenged at the Island Closet in La Pointe, on Monday and Wednesday mornings and/or from thrifted clothing and scraps you bring from home. Alternatively, you may choose to work on a memory quilt using meaningful materials and clothing representing the person, event or relationships you wish to honor.
Discover the luxury and beauty of quilting with a variety of substrates. Learn how to abstract surprising geometries from the natural shapes of deconstructed clothing. Gather and share tips for piecing with wool, linen, denim, knits, corduroy, lycra and more to expand your quilting practice. Deepen your sense of serendipity and gratitude as you realize that the universe provides exactly what you need to make magnificent and meaningful quilts, from the found materials and scraps of everyday life!
