About This Workshop

Learn to bring real life to the page with techniques that can make words dance, sentences sparkle, and stories soar at our Madeline Island Campus with acclaimed journalist and story coach Jacqui Banaszysnki!

Students will explore techniques that weave literary creativity into true stories. Whether you are a news journalist, book author, travel writer, or blogger you will find the week both practical and inspirational.

Students will gain the tools that all good writers master to transform a notion or assignment into a viable story idea, and then shape that idea into a compelling piece. The week will include a mix of fieldwork and in-class exercises to practice various techniques. Jacqui will help students diagnose their unique writing patterns, and meet with them one-on-one to complete a story or build a future writing plan.

“Writing is not magic. But done with equal measures of discipline and passion, it can be magical.”

– Jacqui Banaszynski

What students are saying about this workshop:
Level-up your writing while enjoying catered meals in a beautiful place. I took this course in Tucson in January, and my only regret is that I didn’t take it sooner. Whether you’ve been writing for a while, or are just starting out, Jacqui will help you hone your craft and find the truth of your stories. She tells great tales from the trenches, too. I wish I could go again! – Niki

Writing workshop opportunity with one of the best narrative nonfiction writing instructors I know! – Kim

Jacqui; a huge gift from a woman with a wealth of talents! How fortunate for those who can be with her! – Peg

If you’ve never taken a class from Jacqui, by golly you definitely should. You will learn so much and have such a fun time. – Laurie

Jacqui is a fantastic instructor and Madeline Island School of the Arts is absolutely magical. I highly recommend this amazing opportunity for nonfiction writers of all abilities. You will learn and accomplish so much in one week! – Joy
