3 DAY WORKSHOP

Inspire · Design · Mend - A Visible Mending Course to Repair your Beloved Wardrobe

Availability: Spaces Available

Explore the fundamentals of visible mending in this comprehensive course learning various ways to stitch, patch, and darn your well-loved clothing. Areas of study will focus on repair techniques for denim, woven textiles, and darning for knitwear. This three-day course is an overall creative mending experience to prepare your closet for every season.

Class will begin by sampling repair techniques to develop skill and style before moving on to mending personal garments. Study will focus on using the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to help guide creativity and steer artistic expression.

There is something extraordinary that happens while making and mending in community – sharing stories with one another as our hands work. Repairing cloth not only prolongs the life of our garments and beloved textiles, but it also keeps the narrative of each piece moving forward as we hand-stitch a new story into the existing one.

Denise will share decades of experience and offer exposure to a myriad of her mending samples, fabrics, favorite books, artists, repair tools, and personal garments to inspire and assist along the way.

This class will focus on visible mending and sustainability, finding inspiration, and cultivating a creative mending practice for immediate use and future projects.

You will leave the Madeline Island with a thoughtfully mended garment, or two, designed by your hands, from your heart, and stitched with love, continuing to add to your story as your mending journey travels across the depths of Lake Superior towards home and beyond.
