Intuitive Quit Stories in Abstract Piecing
Availability: Spaces Available
Instructor:
Workshop Description:
Great stories start with distinct, diverse characters. Improvise abstract patchwork characters using color, shape, rhythm, and line, then unite them in one narrative quilt. Cultivate intuitive color and pattern from memory, emotion, culture, and environment. Practice freestyle piecing with simple shapes and strips. Use improv composition to integrate your characters into a cohesive, engaging quilt story, rich in conversation, and aligned with your truth.
On this retreat you will :
- Learn to piece abstractly and spontaniously through a heart centered approach to improv patchwork
- Approach color intuitively and expressively in ways that reach beyond theory, by tapping into your presence, emotion, truth and early color memories to create diverse intuitive color characters that carry meaning.
- Explore color in the present moment, gathering inspiration from the Santa Fe location.
- Use basic ruler free techniques for piecing simple shapes and strips
- Work on darting on and across the seam when patchwork bubbles
- Discover ironing strategies to make the most of your line
- Focus on order of sewing / utilizing filler to equalize different size sections
- Develop Improv Composition strategies, while unlearning fixed pattern composition pitfalls that just don't work with improv.
- Incorporate rhythm to further define characters
- Tap into meaningful authentic narratives waiting to be told.
