About This Workshop
Does perspective leave you confused and scratching your head? Did you know that shade and shadow are painted differently? If this sounds familiar, this workshop is for you! Architectural Illustrator, experienced teacher, best-selling author, and globe-trotting Urban Sketcher Stephanie Bower is offering a unique workshop at MISA, a hybrid that is essentially two workshops in one.
First, we will demystify the concepts of perspective. You’ll finally learn how perspective works…what to look for, and how to find that darn vanishing point! This is not abstract boxes on a table but real world perspective taught through carefully crafted PowerPoint lessons—you’ll learn what to do when you want to sketch a room, a street, a building, and more. And second, as an experienced architectural illustrator, Stephanie will teach you and share her watercolor techniques and tips using a classic, limited palette that is perfect for painting architecture.
What makes this course at MISA unique? It combines both working indoors in the studio AND working outdoors on location like an urban sketcher. It’s the best of both worlds. Picture yourself with your paints on the stunning Northern California coast or sitting with your sketchbook at the beautiful 1770’a Carmel Mission Museum and finally understanding how to capture the scene in front of you. This will be a special week. You’ll leave this workshop inspired by the understanding of both perspective sketching and watercolor painting…and best of all, you’ll never have to fear or fake perspective again!
