Color Exploration in Fabric and Thread: Hand Embroidery, Patchwork, and Color Value

Availability: Spaces Available

Workshop Description:

Spend a week with Blair immersed in deep conversation around color, fabric, and embroidery as you move between gathering inspiration and thoughtful studio time. This workshop is designed for quiltmakers and stitchers ready to look beyond “what goes together” and begin to understand the language of color and value in their own work. Through curated exercises in patchwork, hand embroidery, and compositional studies, students will explore how fabrics speak to one another in light, shadow, and saturation.

Each day will balance slow, meditative hand stitching of Chicken Scratch embroidery with sewing patchwork and creating color compositions, allowing students to both experiment and settle into the rhythm of handwork.

A field trip to the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture will offer a chance to gather visual inspiration which we will then translate back into fabric and thread.

Students will leave the week with expanded confidence around using color value, and a more personal, nuanced relationship with your materials, as well as a desire to want to embroider Chicken Scratch stitches on every piece of gingham you see.

Workshop Schedule:
Sunday Night: Welcome Meet and Greet at 6pm
Monday – Friday: 9am – 4pm
